Accounting Controller

Position Description:

Accounting Controller plans, manages, and oversees the preparation, reporting and filing of our company’s financial statements, records, and tax returns.  Responsible for managing accounting and corresponding audits, for ensuring the accuracy and timely compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal and state laws and regulations and for devising plans and strategies for meeting business objectives and financial goals. 

  • Examine, monitor, and analyze all journal payment entries, including supporting documents and payment entries
  • Review and analyze accounting rules and regulations for the proper accounting treatment
  • Manage and oversee local accounting service providers in Mexico and Chile.
  • Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the parent company and the shareholders of the parent company
  • Manage and oversee overall financial audit process
  • Manage and oversee the work of tax advisors involved in the proper filing of federal and state tax returns
  • Manage and oversee other governmental audits
  • Supervise and maintain accounting staff job results by coaching, and counseling employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Examine, monitor, and analyze the company’s monthly consolidated SPCs and EEA’s cash flow
  • Approve payments as backup for Accounting Senior Manager
  • Prepare annual and monthly cash planning
  • Participate in key internal project meetings
  • Support to prepare the mid-term business plan by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
  • Provide analysis and interpretations of actual performance versus plan/forecast
  • Continually improve the Company’s financial management processes by implementing tighter controls: data integrity, process improvement & rigorous analysis
  • Create, establish, revise adapt and confirm adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for all accounting functions. 
  • Oversee accounts payable including payments, project contract administration and billings.
  • Become familiar with the ADP and 3rd party administration processes to provide backup assistance.

Requirements:

The Head of Operations & Asset Management shall meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in accounting/finance and knowledge of US GAAP and other GAAPs used in North and South America like IFRS, Mexican GAAP
  • Holder of US CPA
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with Development, Operations, Asset Management, Legal and other functions
  • Prior experience in related industries (renewable energy) preferred
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus
  • Multi-national organization experience, including knowledge of Japanese culture a plus
  • Advance level Excel skills required, accounting system (Microsoft Dynamic GP)
  • San Diego 92121: Reliable commute for hybrid work schedule
